The East Zone team of the Commissioner's Task Force on Thursday busted a
13-member gang which was involved in the tampering of answer-sheets of
JNTU's B.Tech exams.
The gang members allegedly laid their hands on sealed bundled answer booklets, while they were transported from various colleges to JNTU's examination branch at Kukatpally. They would tamper with their seal outside the JNTU examination branch, taking Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 per paper, and would then give the answer-sheets to supplementary examination candidates to get them to rewrite wrong answers correctly from books. These "corrected" sheets would then be deposited back in JNTU, Hyderabad.
The Task Force team seized nine sealed answer-sheet bundles dated 10/12/12 and 11/12/12 of Bharath College of Ibrahimpatnam, Sreenidhi of Ghatkesar, Science College of Ibrahimpatanm, Aware Madhavanji College of Maheshwaram and Aurora College of Uppal, while they were being transported in a Xylo vehicle bearing No. AP12-H-9012.
The police also seized 68 loose answer-sheets from the possession of the accused persons, along with net cash of Rs. 65,000, while they were rewriting answer-sheets in the room.
The Task Force Team arrested 13 people involved in the racket. A case vide Cr. No. 417/2012, u/s 406, 419, 420, 468, 471 IPC r/w Sec 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractices and Unfair Means) Act, 1997 was registered at Saidabad PS, and is being investigated.
The arrested accused include M Venkatesh, C Balu Mahender, M Jai Ram Reddy, T Hari, Shaik Mahaldar Hussain Basha, D Kirthi Verdhan Deeraj, Sai Pranay, Dheeraj Reddy, M Sridhar, E Anvesh, Setty Ravi Shankar and M Rakesh Reddy. Most of them are students of B.Tech.
